BEN FAIRFIELD TRUMPET VIRTUOSO STRIKES A CHORD WITH THE COMMUNITY
Ben Fairfield, co-principal trumpet since 2018, has become an integral part of the orchestra’s sound and community outreach efforts. Ben speaks highly of the Symphony’s musicianship. “The West Texas Symphony plays quite well,” he said, noting that the organization holds its own against much larger orchestras across the country.
The Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center, where the symphony performs, receives particular praise from Ben. He described it as “one of my favorite places to play, really in the country,” citing its exceptional acoustics and ease of performance.
Ben’s involvement extends beyond the main stage. As a member of the Lone Star Brass Quintet, he helps foster camaraderie among the principal brass players and enhance the Symphony’s overall sound. “It really helps us unify the Symphony’s brass section,” Ben explained.
Education is another passion for this talented musician. Ben participates in the symphony’s outreach programs, including Marvelous Melodies and school visits. These initiatives aim to introduce young people to classical music and inspire the next generation of musicians and concert-goers.
In February 2024, Ben took center stage as a soloist, performing Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. The experience, he says, was particularly special due to the familiarity and comfort of playing with his colleagues.
“It’s different being in the same space at the same time the music is happening. It is night and day different. You’re in that space of creation,” said Ben. Your donation ensures that this magical space of creation remains active and accessible to West Texans.
Don't let the music fade. Your support today ensures that the West Texas Symphony continues to enrich lives, inspire minds, and fill our community with the transformative power of music for generations to come.
