ALLISON GRAY CHAMPIONS MUSIC TO INSPIRE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Born and raised in Odessa, Allison Gray brings a lifetime of musical experience and a deep commitment to the local arts scene to her new role. Allison has worked to restart the West Texas Symphony Young Professionals group dedicated to people in their 20s to 40s.

“I am originally from Odessa, born and raised,” Allison shared. “I grew up attending schools in Ector County ISD and I’ve played cello since sixth grade. I've gone through all the programs, was in Satin Strings and Symphony at Permian High School, and played cello throughout college in a touring Celtic ensemble called Welsh Revival. Music has always been a huge part of my life.”

Allison is eager to contribute to the cultural landscape of West Texas through the symphony. “The symphony plays a pivotal role,” she said. “It brings people together, regardless of their backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. It's more than just concerts; it's about connecting people through music.”

Allison is particularly excited about the symphony's educational outreach programs. “Our local students get to experience a private showing of world-class performers on a world-class stage. she noted. “It shows them that being a full-time musician is a viable career path. I wish we had that when I was going through school at ECISD.”

Beyond education, Allison sees the symphony as a vital part of the local economy. “Investing in the symphony isn't just about enjoying a nice concert,” she explained. “Your tickets also invest back into the community, supporting education and local musicians. It brings people from out of town, funneling money into our economy.”

“Sounds of the Season” is by far her favorite concert but she also enjoys concerts from the Pops & Family Series. “It always puts you in the holiday mood and I have started taking my young niece to the performances. It has really inspired her musically,” she said. “I also love seeing movies like Superman or Back to the Future with live music. It merges the symphonic world with the pop culture world and creates such a fun atmosphere.”

As the West Texas Symphony continues to enrich the community through music, Allison is excited to expand the Young Professionals group. “I'm excited to create a space for people who enjoy music and to show younger generations that they belong at the symphony,” she said. “The symphony helps create lasting memories through music.”
